Omnichannel fulfilment requires space, structure and smart processes. At our Gerstdijk location, work is well underway on an expansion that makes this possible and takes it a step further: a single site where both B2B and B2C flows come together.
We asked Facility Manager Remie Bellemakers and Director E-Commerce Pim van Rooij about the progress and what this expansion means for the future.
1. What steps have been taken so far, and what will be the focus in the coming period?
Remie Bellemakers:
‘The first phase of the floor construction has been successfully completed, including preparations for lighting, electrical installations and sprinklers. We have now started the next phase, with all installations being carried out simultaneously to ensure the construction proceeds smoothly and according to plan.’
2. What does this expansion mean in practice for capacity and layout?
Pim van Rooij:
The first phase of the expansion has been designed to increase our storage capacity, with additional focus on picking locations. In the new space, we have installed modern shelving and location bins, while also improving the existing site layout. This allows us to organise inbound flows, returns processing and stock allocation more intelligently and efficiently.’
3. The expansion plays an important role in Modexpress’ omnichannel ambitions. How does the new infrastructure support this?
Pim van Rooij:
‘The new infrastructure primarily provides the space needed to strengthen our omnichannel approach. While the pocket sorter already operates from a single integrated stock, the additional storage capacity enables us to handle more volume and better manage peaks. This ensures we remain flexible and efficient for both B2B and B2C flows.’
Keep an eye on Modexpress channels for more updates and the final outcome of the expansion.
