My name is Mattie Hutjens and I am transport planner in the evening shift at Modexpress. In my job I make sure, together with my colleagues, that the orders of our customers are delivered on time in the most efficient way.

Before I started at Modexpress in September 2009, I was already familiar with the company; in fact, I had been working for six years as a driver for one of the charters they hired. In those six years, I was able to get a good picture of Modexpress, so I didn’t think long when they made me an offer to work as a transport planner. To this day I still enjoy doing this work!

My working day never looks the same; transport is very unpredictable, the supply of goods changes every day, but also per season. Every day it is a challenge to buy and plan the transport as efficiently as possible, so that the revenue remains good without compromising the quality we strive for within Modexpress. My shift always starts with collecting as much information as possible of the goods we have to plan that day. Using various lists and EDI messages, I process this information so I can get a good idea of what is needed for that day and based on this information I order the capacity at our charters. The final planning is done at night, because we often receive goods late in the evening and we always want to include them in the transport of the next day to keep lead times short and our customers happy.

I also take care of many other tasks in the department such as processing the time sheets of the drivers we hire, entering and checking charter/partner invoices, entering rates and handling claims. Modexpress is a reliable employer and that is very valuable to me, what I like most is that every day is different, with new challenges. The cooperation with my warehouse colleagues in the evening shift I experience as very pleasant, there is a very good atmosphere. It gives me a good feeling when I get the job done together with my colleagues so our customers are satisfied. I think this well summarizes what Modexpress stands for!
